HOW TO WRITE A STAND OUT BIO TO GROW ON INSTAGRAM {WITH TEMPLATES!}

You see, so many biz owners put SO much effort into getting their content ‘seen’… but struggle to get the people who see it to turn to actual community members or followers. #soundfamiliar?

And here’s the reason {AND THE FIX!}

When people get to your account? They do one thing.

👉 Skim your bio 👈

In just milliseconds they suss out if you are someone they want to invite into their lives long-term with that “follow” button.

So if your bio doesn’t show them:

🧐What you do {AKA what pain point do you solve or desire do you help ‘em reach?}

🧐Who you do it for {AKA do you help them in particular}

🧐And why choose you {AKA what extra value do you bring over anyone else?}

…Then all that valuable visibility goes to waste ‘cause you could be PERFECT for them… but you forget to tell ‘em.

You will LITERALLY LOSE THEM AT HELLO.

So if you feel you’re getting “seen” {aka you’re trying reels + hashtags + outreach + ads} but not growing?

WHAT NEEDS TO BE IN YOUR BIO:

Your Instagram Bio is just as important {if not the MOST important for growth} as the other elements in your IG account. Why?  ‘cause it shows your audiences and target market your value, highlights your offer, speaks to their needs and encourages audiences to take action… all in one little line.

So, the question is: how do you create a strong bio that speaks straight to your ideal audience and helps your brand stand out from your competitors? Let dig into it one by one:

  • Consider your target audience. You need to have your ideal audience in mind before writing your bio {or any piece of content for that matter}. This will enable you to know who you need to show you are speaking, what pain points they hold, what desires they have, and be able to USE THEIR LANGUAGE which is crucial to really speak straight to them. 
  • Know your value proposition. You should be able to tell your audience what is your unique selling proposition AKA what is it that you can offer to your audience?! This is the part that indirectly says to them when they read it “if I follow this person I will get *this* support in my life. 
  • Decide what action you want your audience to take. You have the opportunity to call people to take an action in your bio. And you want this to be specific for their next steps, or overall an enticing prospect for them to click. So think about what your goal is: 
  1. Do you want to drive website traffic?
  2.  Do you want people to purchase your product or services?
  3. Do you want an increase in newsletter subscription?
  4. Do you want to increase conversion rate?
  5. Do you want to increase user-generated content?
  • Do not forget your keywords. The name line of your IG bio is SEARCHABLE. This means that if you are a pinterest strategist, you should have the word “Pinterest” in your name line as when people search the word “Pinterest” in the IG search box, you will come up! This is the same for products! If you sell kid’s clothing, you should have this in your name line! Just having your name or just your business name is a waste of space as you lose the opportunity to be found by a new audience searching keywords.  
  • Use emojis. Remember the 150-character limit? Make use of emojis to shorten and captivate the attention of your target audience in a visually (and emotionally) appealing manner.
  • Hone your brand voice. Fine-tune what brand voice do you want to go for: quirky? Jolly? Professional? Write a few drafts and see which of them suits you best.
 
 

⁠In summary, you must:

✅ Check it says the solution you provide in the words your CUSTOMER would use

✅ Check it says WHO you serve or who your product is for

✅ Check that there’s enticing benefits of working or buying from you

✅ And make sure things are clear, captivating, and not so creative that what you actually do is completely lost in fancy words and creative phrases.
